Eye of the Storm

Look who stumbled and fell into first place. There are 56 games in this Covid-19 shortened season. The Carolina Hurricanes lead the Discover Central Division and the National Hockey League with 79 points and three games to go. (They’ve already clinched a playoff spot.)

Rod Brind’Amour was asked about the President’s Cup in a recent interview. The President’s Cup is given to the team that earns the most points during the regular season. Winning the President’s Cup has often been the “kiss of death” for any team entering the playoffs. Rod said that if it falls in their lap, they’ll take it, but the team’s focus is on home ice advantage during the playoff. That is Team Mentality.

Let me add another bit to this story: Hat Tricks (an individual scoring three goals in a game). The Carolina Hurricanes have the fewest hat tricks in the league. That statistic might be outdated after Sebastian Aho scored a hat trick last night. The point the commentator made was that the Hurricanes’ unselfish Team Mentality has gotten them to this point.

I think the Hurricanes’ game and work ethic will carry them through the Stanley Cup Playoffs. All the way through. Morgan Geekie, center #67, was talking about sticking to their game and said “You can’t out pizza the hut.” I think that means something heavy. I’m still trying to figure it out.
