Ten years ago, I wrote a Facebook post about being (living) at the same place I had been thirty years earlier. On December 8th, 1980, I had been out to dinner. I came home and turned on the radio: WROQ Charlotte. (A station in Anderson, SC has those call letters now.) I heard the first news story about John Lennon being shot and subsequently dying from gunshot wounds.
The week before that, I had attended a Battle of the Bands in Unicoi, TN. The Runner Up in the contest was a Beatles cover band. A week later, they may have won. Who knows. 
Here's what I had written ten years ago.
"The Dakota, December 8th,1980. I remember exactly where I was when I heard the words of Lennon's death. Today, in that very same place, almost 30 years gone but not very far away. Not far away at all.
