QWERTY

“The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.” Does anybody remember this sentence? Let me help with a hint, High School typing class. This sentence is a pangram – a short sentence that contains every letter of the alphabet.

We typed this sentence hundreds upon hundreds of times. It didn’t work. I still can’t type. Left hand isn’t so bad, but I still have to look at the keyboard. Right hand; thumb, index, and middle finger.

When typewriters were first invented, the letters were in alphabetical order. Typists were too fast, and the typebars kept jamming. It was 1873 or so was when the QWERTY keyboard arrangement was utilized. It is named after the first six letter on the top row of letters. QWERTY wikilink
