...from a Poe family. The father abandoned the family, and his mother died. He was raised by John and Francis Allan of Richmond, VA. He took Allan as his middle name.
Richmond Virginia, has the distinction of having been home, a few times, to Edgar Allan Poe. I would claim that he stole all of my ideas, but the truth is, he was done with them long before I was born. So, last year with some time to spare, I was in Richmond right near the Edgar Allan Poe museum. I loved it.
Some months or so before that, I had been in Charlottesville VA, and guess what's there. Poe's dorm room at University of Virginia. Edgar attended UVA for about a year before dropping out. UVA keeps Edgar Allan Poe's dorm room locked in a cage behind glass and steel. There are those among us that may go so far as obtaining a piece of macabre memorabilia.
