Hey, remember these? An LP album. The "Long Play" record. People that love these are obsessive about them. My first record was a 45, Iron Butterfly's "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida." These were often called "singles" but there was also a "B-Side." I think the B-side was a song called "Zig-Zag."(I'm probably wrong about the B-side.) It sounded like a record being played backwards. That's where I first learned about backward masking. Well, play that song backwards and it sounds like a real song, but there was a subliminal message recorded in the song. It simply said, "Worship SANTA! Sit on his lap and cry." (Please don't believe that.)
Here is a wiki quote that tells the Garden of Eden story: In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" was written during Iron Butterfly's early days. According to drummer Ron Bushy, organist-vocalist Doug Ingle wrote the song one evening while drinking an entire gallon of Red Mountain wine. When the inebriated Ingle then played the song for Bushy, who wrote down the lyrics for him, he was slurring his words so badly that what was supposed to be "in the Garden of Eden" was interpreted by Bushy as "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida." Classic story.
